The Desert Reptile Exhibit featured a tarantula, scorpion, Bearded Dragon, and three snakes, including a King Snake, which helps keep the rattlesnake population down. Several attendees, including Arlette Lowery, AANR Sr. Membership Communications Specialist, bravely handled the snakes. Arlette even found herself with a serpent cuddling up to her, trying to hide out in her convention tote.

The Hamburger Dinner Fundraiser for the AANR Education Foundation raised several hundred dollars, while the Single Malt Scotch Society raised $1,000 with a heartfelt tribute to Horst Kraus, who has now joined his beloved wife Gigi in a memorial overlooking the Ranch. Horst’s legacy lives on as his family continues to maintain Shangri-La lovingly.

Resident Kevin Henkle captivated the crowd with his extensive knowledge of local cactus plants, even passing around a small piece, sans thorns, for everyone to taste. The consistency was similar to that of a kiwi.

The Tequila Tasting, hosted by Diamante, attracted long lines of eager participants who sampled three offerings and enjoyed an informative talk on the production and craftsmanship that goes into their product.

The Craft and Vendor Fair showcased handmade crafts from resort residents, offering a perfect opportunity to take home a unique, hand-crafted souvenir.

Saturday’s Desert Burro Meet and Greet was a departure from the usual AANR Member Meet and Greets. We had the chance to get up close to these often stubborn animals, patiently standing by as we took turns petting them and taking countless photos.

The Silent Auction, benefiting the Government Affairs Team, raised much-needed funds to support the fight against legislation that threatens our nudist privileges. Attendees bid on artwork, books, and NCSL pins among other items.

Amid all these exciting events, the AANR Membership and Trustee Meetings took place. It was an honor to be inaugurated as the next President, and I look forward to leading AANR as we work to increase our ranks to include all those who seek to embrace the nudist philosophy. Membership in AANR provides the unique privilege of attending these meetings and seeing your elected officers in action.

I hope to see you at a future meeting, where fun, camaraderie, and the business of being nude come together. Many thanks to Shangri-La for showcasing the beauty of Arizona through every event, leaving us with lasting memories of food, fun, and fellowship, all woven into a truly memorable experience.
