FCC Fines ABC Over Nude Buttocks The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed a $1.4 million indecency fine against the Walt Disney Company's ABC network over a 2003 episode of NYPD Blue. The episode in question shows a woman's naked buttocks in a scene where a young boy walks in on the nude woman taking a shower. In a notice filed on Friday, the agency said it had received "numerous complaints" after the show was shown on 52 ABC stations in the Central and Mountain time zones at 9 p.m., in violation of federal restrictions against broadcasting "obscene material" between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. The network opposes the fine and plans to appeal. Artist Awarded Damages Over Nude Statue Frank Hermesh, a Canadian artist, will receive $14,000 in damages from the City of Penticton after vandals repeatedly damaged the statue's male genitalia. Frank the Baggage Handler drew international headlines after criticism of the statue led to defacement. The statue of a nude man surrounded by suitcases was unveiled to the public about three years ago. Hermesh removed the statue in 2005 to prevent more damage. He offered to put it back up again inside but the city refused. They cancelled the contract, refused to pay Hermesh for having created the piece and refused to pay for repairs, so Hermesh sued. Frank and his baggage was purchased by a local winery where he now is safely displayed in all his (repaired) glory. Read more... |
