Poll Shows Support for Nude Sunbathing The October 2007 Gonzales Research and Marketing Strategies Poll shows abundant support for nude sunbathing on a section of beach at Assateague Island in Maryland. Fifty-six percent of Marylanders agree that “if there were significant signage posted to notify those who wish to avoid the area, nude sunbathing should be allowed on an isolated area of Assateague island beach.” The survey polled over 800 registered voters in Maryland who vote regularly. No matter what the demographic, the poll showed the majority or respondants in favor across the board. Best Places Worldwide to Get Nude The CanWest News Service reports the "top places in the world to let it all hang out." Included among their picks are Canada's popular Wreck Beach and Pasco County, Florida, nudist resorts Lake Como Family Nudist Resort and Caliente. Other AANR clubs and resorts mentioned in the travel article are Shangri La Ranch and Mira Vista Resort in Arizona. Terra Cotta Inn, an AANR participating business, is called an "upscale nudist retreat." The article also focuses on nude travel outside North America from Hidden Beach Resort in the Mexican Caribbean to Cap d'Agde, the famous French "naked city." Travelodge hotels, which operate over 300 business hotels in Britain, says sleepwalking rose seven-fold during the past year. Apparently, the survey discovered that 95% of the somnambulists were nude men. Asked why the results showed the majority of those who sleep in the nude were men, the company responded that men make up a majority of their business clientele. Read more Nude Public Saunas Way of Life in Helsinki Public saunas are a part of everyday life in Helsinki, as reporter Sarah Shuckburgh discovered on a recent visit. Helsinki residents visit saunas after work to relax and socialize, similar to the way North Americans stop at their neighborhood bar or coffee shop after a day on the job. Nudity is considered natural in Finland, and citizens tout the saunas’ health benefits saying they have fewer colds and other illnesses because of this stress-free, natural way of life. Did Schuckburgh decide to try the saunas herself? At the end of her article, she says she was so relaxed after the experience that she slept “lulled by the rhythmic splashing of nude swimmers in the pool below.” Read more
