Facebook Bans Breastfeeding Photos

Facebook, the popular social networking site, has angered many after deleting photos of nursing babies, deeming them "obscene content." Breastfeeding activists, or lactivists as they are being called, are emailing and posting their rage online, according to Canada's The Star after at least one Canadian mother's account was closed. A Facebook group petitioning for change in the site's policy--"Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene"--now has over 10,000 supporters.

Earlier this year, rival website MySpace came under fire after it deleted photos of a Washington woman breastfeeding her infant. Facebook spokesperson Lisa Chin reportedly said it did not prevent mothers from uploading photos of themselves breastfeeding their babies, but a Sydney Morning Herald article quoted Chin as stating,"Photos containing an exposed breast do violate our terms and are removed." Judge Rules Carpenter Can Work Nude

An Oakland, California, judge has ruled that a carpenter arrested for working nude can continue to work in the buff, reports KUTV2News. The 51-year-old carpenter was arrested last year for indecent exposure after being spotted nude at a house where he was hired to build cabinets. Alameda County Superior Court Judge Julie Conger ruled that although Percy Honniball was nude, he was not acting lewd or seeking sexual gratification. Honiball stated that he likes to work nude because it's more comfortable. Read more and watch the KUTV video at Nude carpenter.

"Napa Uncovered" Hopes to Save the Land

Jumping on the nude calendar bandwagon, a group of Napa Valley winegrowers and ranchers are releasing "Napa Uncovered," a 2008 calendar to raise money to protect the valley's agricultural resources, reports CNN. Members of the Napa County Farm Bureau, all men, are releasing the calendar to draw attention to dwindling farmlands in the region and to show a "lighter side" of the valley.

The calendars go on sale next month with 2,000 copies ordered for a first printing. Proceeds will go to agricultural preservation. Read more . . .

Nude Swim Case Goes to Court

A four-year-old case heads to court next month in Vancouver to sort out a disagreement between the City of Surrey and a group of nudists who want to rent a local facility for members-only nude swims. The nudist group started their swim nights in 2002 and was profiled in The Leader in 2003. Shortly afterwards, Surrey canceled the swims citing a parks rule that "proper attire is required in city pools," after receiving public complaints. Paul Andreassen, organizer of the nudist group, wants the swims reinstated, arguing that nudity is appropriate attire for nudists.Read more . . .
