Book Reveals Politics, Religion and Skinny-Dipping The August 20, 2007 issue of TIME magazine features an excerpt from the upcoming book The Preacher and the Presidents by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy about evangelist Billy Graham. Graham has been a spiritual guide to United States presidents from Truman through the current administration. Besides interesting insights into U.S. politics and spirituality, the article also reveals that weeks after John F. Kennedy's assassination, Graham was summoned to Washington by a shaken Lyndon Johnson "to talk, pray and go skinny-dipping in the White House pool." Read an excerpt at TIME. New Nude Advertising The latest advertising campaign to use nudity as a marketing tool is Jordache jeans. A popular staple of the 1970s, Jordache once competed with designer brands such as Calvin Klein and Gloria Vanderbilt. To herald in a new era, Jordache has chosen Victoria's Secret model and host of the television series "Project Runway" Heidi Klum to appear in the new ads. Shot from behind, a nude Klum holds equestrian gear, possibly in homage to the company's controversial 1979 ad. The earlier advertisement showed a topless model--in Jordache jeans--riding through the surf on a horse. The ad was banned by all the major television networks. Read more at Advertising. Help Clean Up the Beach Advance registration is now open for volunteers to help clean up the beach at the Friends of Assateague State Park Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, September 15. This event promotes good community spirit and shows how much nudists care about this wonderful beach area. AANR members will meet at the ranger station located across from the bathhouse. To sign up, and for additional information concerning this event, send an e-mail or call 301-399-9338. This will be a clothing-required event. Nudists Parade Through Russia A nudist parade takes place in Russia this month. The unique event will be held in the city of Yekaterinburg, as 10,000 nudists from all over the world march through the main street of the city. Organizers originally wanted to hold the event in Moscow, but were refused by authorities there. The demonstration originated eight years ago and is held annually in different countries. Participants believe the parade attracts attention to world nudity, raising spiritual awareness. Read more at Nude Parade. |
