Assateague Cleanup Seeks Volunteers Advance registration is now open for volunteers to help at the Assateague Beach Coastal Day Cleanup on Saturday, September 16, 2006. Participation in this event will show how much nudists care about this wonderful beach area. It is important to sign up early as we need to know how many bright yellow T-shirts will be needed, as this is a clothing not-optional event. As always, AANR will provide bottled water, juice, and snacks. Click here for details and contact information.
Libertarians Sue Over Nudist Camp Fundraiser The Wichita Eagle reports that the Libertarian Party of Kansas is suing Shawnee County over sheriff's deputies shutting down a fundraiser at a nudist camp. The lawsuit alleges that the county violated free speech rights which included the right to support the owners of Lake Edun. The county stated that recreational and commercial activities are barred at Lake Edun without permission from the county. Rod Hodgkinson, the state party chairman and a candidate for secretary of state, contends that they are a political party, which does not fall under the the heading of commercial activity. The fundraiser was moved to another site after deputies with guns in patrol cars blocked access to Lake Edun.Read more ... Fly the Friendlier Skies Who says flying can't be fun anymore? AdRANTS reports that the UK's RyanAir's tongue-in-cheek image on their website proposes an idea we can all get behind. Vermont City Faces Anti-Nudity Ordinance Complaints about young people spending time naked in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont, have prompted the Select Board to explore an anti-nudity ordinance, reports the sunjournal. The young people have been congregating in a downtown parking lot to enjoy the summer weather without clothing, which bothers some residents. Vermont has no law against nudity, though some cities and towns ban it through ordinances. A group of five young men gathered downtown to protest the proposed ordinance. Although measures have been taken, so far the nudists and police seem to be on the same page. Adhi Palar, one of the protesters, stated, "There's no real valid way to justify the banning of nakedness. Nakedness does not violate any human rights whatsoever." Police Chief John Martin seems to be taking an easygoing appoach towards the nudity and doesn't see "the harm." He said,"It's a problem to the extent that it bothers people, but we've always had it here." Read more at Ban Request. Read what others are saying and voice your opinion.
