Ilsley Attends the AANR NW Convention This week, Ilsley travels to Lake Bronson Club in Sultan, Washington, just in time for the AANR Northwest convention, June 30-July 5. This year's theme is "Destination:Paradise," and the event will be full of fun-packed activities such as sports tournaments, dances, karaoke, a wine & cheese party, and much more. Lake Bronson was founded in 1938, and is designed for clothing-optional enjoyment in a natural setting. Nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, this picturesque wooded 120-acre site is 40 miles northeast of Seattle. Visitors can enjoy the club's year-round beauty while fishing, swimming, canoeing, or just relaxing on the beach. The adventurous can hike to the park's 85-foot natural waterfall, while the sports-minded can enjoy tennis, volleyball, and shuffleboard. There is never a shortage of things to do at Lake Bronson Club. The Ilsley is a traveling trophy commissioned to commemorate AANR's 75th Anniversary as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation in North America. Ilsley is traveling to nearly 40 AANR clubs and resorts across the U.S. and Canada. Throughout his tour, special themed events and celebrations are planned at host clubs along the way. The award is named for the late Rev. Ilsley Boone, the founder and first Executive Director of AANR's predecessor, the American Sunbathing Association. Boone is perhaps best remembered as the flamboyant clergyman who served as plaintiff in the 1958 case of Sunshine Book Co. v. Summerfield. That case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court and established, once and for all, First Amendment protection for nudist publications. Ilsley ends his tour in August 2006 at the Association's 75th Anniversary Convention at Deanza Springs Resort outside San Diego, California. You can track Ilsley's weekly progress on his year-long tour right here on the AANR website.
Jolie Commissions Nude Paintings Life Style Extra reports that actress/humanitarian Angelina Jolie commissioned nude portraits of herself before giving birth to her daughter, Shiloh, last month. The actress commissioned U.S. artist Don Bachardy to paint three different portraits to record different stages of her pregnancy. Bachardy, who has painted other celebrities such as Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, and Jack Nicholson, flew to Namibia, where Jolie gave birth, for the final portrait. Running With The Nudes Just days before this year's famed bull run in Pamplona, Spain, hundreds of activists wearing only red scarves and horns will take part in the annual "Running of the Nudes," to protest the "Running of the Bulls." The famous event, immortalized by Ernest Hemingway in his 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises, attracts visitors and participants from around the world. During the race, people run through the streets waving red flags in front of the bulls. The event is dangerous, not only to the runners but to the bulls. The Running With The Nudes website describes how visitors are often appalled when they see the damage done to the bulls as they try to escape the chaos. According to the website, the animals' hooves often slip on the pavement or they run into buildings in their confusion. There are also reported cases of the bulls being injured after human runners and spectators gouge them with sticks or pull their tails. With the slogan "Out With The Old-In With The Nude," protestors hope to show the city that it is not necessary to torture animals for tourism. For more information, visit the Running With The Nudes website. Nude Bikers Protest Oil Dependency Hundreds of bicyclists gathered in Madrid and London recently to stage a nude protest against oil dependency, according to National Geographic News. Protestors also appealed for more bike lanes in the Spanish capital, which bikers said would reduce accidents. In London, bikers rode past such landmarks as Big Ben and Picadilly Circus without incident, sporting banners that read "Oil is not a bare necessity but a crude obsession." One biker body painted "No Fumes" on his back. |
