Ilsley Travels to Paradise This week, Ilsley arrives at Paradise Lakes Resort just in time for the AANR Midwinter Board Meeting. Paradise Lakes is located on over 72 acres in Land O'Lakes, Florida, close to Tampa International Airport and within a 90-minute drive from Orlando. The club setting combines tropical beauty with luxury in a unique upscale resort and residential community. Amenities include two swimming pools, two water volleyball pools, whirlpool/spas, sauna, fitness center, boutique and a variety of sports courts, restaurants and lounges. Paradise Resorts, which includes sister club Paradise Valley, is home to a promotional vehicle in the form of a 30-foot motor coach that travels through Florida, Georgia, and points north to publicize AANR resorts. In addition to traveling between the two Paradise resorts, the bus travels to sporting events, store openings, and beaches. There's always something happening in Paradise! The Ilsley is a traveling trophy commissioned to commemorate AANR's 75th Anniversary as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation in North America. Ilsley is traveling to nearly 40 AANR clubs and resorts across the U.S. and Canada. Throughout his tour, special themed events and celebrations are planned at host clubs along the way. The award is named for the late Rev. Ilsley Boone, the founder and first Executive Director of AANR's predecessor, the American Sunbathing Association. Boone is perhaps best remembered as the flamboyant clergyman who served as plaintiff in the 1958 case of Sunshine and Health v. Summerfield. That case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court and established, once and for all, First Amendment protection for nudist publications. Ilsley ends his tour in August 2006 at the Association's 75th Anniversary Convention at Deanza Springs Resort outside San Diego, California. You can track Ilsley's weekly progress on his year-long tour right here on the AANR website.
Tipper Gore Exposes Family Values The March issue of More magazine features a thoughtful interview with Tipper Gore. No matter what side of the political fence you're on, the article is an honest account of how one family dealt with change and disappointment. Gore describes what the last five years since the 2000 presidential election were like. One way Al and Tipper dealt with the stress of the election and the lifestyle change of leaving the White House was to take an extended vacation. On one of their stops, Gore says they "went skinny-dipping by moonlight in beautiful bays in the Greek Islands." The Gores have embraced nudity before in their book The Spirit of Family, a compilation of family portraits taken by renowned photographers and a group of relatively unknown women photographers who submitted photographs of their families. Culled from over 15,000 images, the book displays 250 photographs that celebrate all kinds of families and includes natural, artful nudity that underscores the strength of these convictions. Students Stage Nude Protest University of California Berkeley students took advantage of the warm weather to march unclothed in protest of the use of sweatshops in the manufacturing of college apparel at the Berkeley campus. A crowd of about 300 gathered in front of California Hall that houses Chancellor Robert Birgeneau's office. Some of the 36 or so male and female students remained clothed, but most shed them in protest and held up signs decrying the practice of sweatshop conditions. Read more at Protest. Actor May Give up Nude Swims Actor David Duchovny, best known for his role on the popular television series The X-Files may have to give up skinny-dipping. The star and his wife, actress Tea Leoni, lost their appeal to block a new multi-million-dollar home from being built above their Malibu home. Publicly, Leoni cited concerns that Duchovny loves to swim and shower naked in their backyard. She was concerned that Duchovny, a triathlete who swims laps in their pool, would be visible to their new neighbors. |
