Ilsley Travels to Palm Springs

This week, Ilsley visits Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas, one of the most exclusive and celebrated properties located in the heart of Palm Springs, that brings a European standard to a California naturist resort. Visitors will enjoy their stay because of the combined charm of a secluded inn and the luxury of a full service resort. Guests experience a one of a kind naturist setting wrapped in endless acres of Mediterranean-styled villas, intimate courtyards, private balconies, and secluded garden settings. Features also include three grand pools, two outdoor spas, and exquisite waterfalls, fountains, lagoons, and streams.

Desert Shadows has everything a visitor could need including the Sunset Cafe, a full service restaurant; an exercise room, the Skinny Dipper Shop, The Spa, and excellent service. There are accommodations to fit every need from lovely hotel rooms to luxury two-bedroom villas. Desert Shadows Inn Resort & Villas provides a holiday vacation that will be an experience that will be remembered for a lifetime.

The Ilsley is a traveling trophy commissioned to commemorate AANR's 75th Anniversary as the credible voice of reason for nude recreation in North America. Ilsley is traveling to nearly 40 AANR clubs and resorts across the U.S. and Canada. Throughout his tour, special themed events and celebrations are planned at host clubs along the way.

The award is named for the late Rev. Ilsley Boone, the founder and first Executive Director of AANR's predecessor, the American Sunbathing Association. Boone is perhaps best remembered as the flamboyant clergyman who served as plaintiff in the 1958 case of Sunshine and Health v. Summerfield. That case went all the way to the United States Supreme Court and established, once and for all, First Amendment protection for nudist publications.

Ilsley ends his tour in August 2006 at the Association's 75th Anniversary Convention at Deanza Springs Resort outside San Diego, California.

You can track Ilsley's weekly progress on his year-long tour right here on the AANR website.

Article Dispels Myths About Nudism

A recent article on MSNBC.com aims to dispel the 5 Myths about Nude Vacations. Subtitled "the realities of 'au naturel' holidays," the article was the lead story on MSN.com the Saturday after it first appeared and links to the AANR Web site and some AANR-affiliated clubs and resorts.

Author Christopher Elliott is National Geographic Traveler's ombudsman and a nationally syndicated columnist who specializes in travel issues. He tackles such myths as "Nudists are mostly senior citizens. . ." by pointing out that most nudist resorts are extremely family-friendly, providing activities such as various sports, pumpkin painting, dinners, and holiday events. As Elliott states, " The truth is, nudists are often the people next door, and if nothing else, a nude vacation can lead to many new discoveries."

Take the Challenge

Here's your chance to contribute to AANR Government Affairs, which protects your right to enjoy social nude recreation, while taking a chance on winning a vacation to remember. The latest Bare Necessities Challenge offers an upper-level verandah cabin for two aboard the Mediterranea, a vacation package valued at $5,000. It departs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 26, 2006, with stops in St. Martin, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas before returning to Fort Lauderdale on March 5.

Passengers will enjoy one of the largest nude cruises ever aboard one of the most luxurious ships ever chartered for a clothing-optional cruise. For each $5 donated, entrants will receive one chance at winning a trip on this once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

Mail your donation to AANR, 1703 N. Main Street, Kissimmee, FL 34744-3396; or phone 800/TRY-NUDE for Discover, MasterCard, or Visa entries. There is no limit to the number of times you may enter. Entries must be received by December 14, 2005, and the drawing will be held December 21, 2005.
